New Rock Music Videos and a Leftover Copy: U2, The Airborne Toxic Event

The defining band of the 1980's EuroRock:U2
Magnificent by U2 (Live from the BBC on a ROOF!)

Heard this song for the first time two days ago, and said: "Damn! I gotta get something up on them." The Airborne Toxic Event has a 1st album out, #1 on the new artist chart, but they have been together for a while. Well, here's to a persistence and success!!! (Good Luck and don't F-ed it up!!!)
Sometime Around Midnight (May 1st Video on their site)

Lastly, it is strange to post something left from another user. Not really, the library offers these weird occurences often. So, because it seems harmless, because it is indicative of the times we live in, and it includes a British flav, I posted it. Not too personal - more conversational than anything. They obviously won't mind...

Left Over Copy & Paste from the last user:
If it makes you feel any better, I have gone thru this many many times before
and I'm still getting by. Look on the bright side, now you can get a new
job....maybe even in Munich! Wouldn't that make a lot of people happy. Want to
go on Holiday? Do you get seasick? The Islands are LOVELY this time of year. On
a more somber note, I'm still waiting for a job for this season. It's quite late
in coming and I'm begining to think they are trying to tell me something.
Although it would NOT be in my best interest right now, I guess I could retire.
Hey, while you're looking for your job, keep an eye out for me too. If I do have
to retire I will still want to get a few more years of income. Of course, I
could just moore at the base of Tower Bridge and have dinner at Browns on a
regular bases. That's really not a bad thought.

Stiff upper lip and all
that rot

Love Ya

Da

Friday Music: Just doing the 1980's

These would be the in the mode of sounds that everyone heard in a multitude of bands that copied or did better (or worse) than the ones I picked out.

Duran Duran was at the top of their game from 1982-1986.

Simple Minds: Does anyone remember any other band that got more out of one song in movie? (Berlin's Take My Breath Away, maybe from TOP GUN?)

Depeche Mode & OMD were listened to by Vision Wear people, riding skateboards (then an act of rebellion) and the pre-Seattle angst crowd.

It's Friday, go do The Big 80's!!!

Depeche Mode - People are People. Well, they are?

OMD - If You Leave. Classic Sync Pop Band.

Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me). The Breakfast Club. The launcher of careers and weird spoofs.

Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf. And out on the prowl!!! Meow!!!

The Big 80's: Music, Money & Women from that time

Tne Band of the 80's: U2 performing live 'With or Without You' from Rattle and Hum with an additional verse...

The Dance/Pop Star of the 80's: Michael Jackson's "Bad" another Thriller in a parking garage. I guess Michael is pretty bad -- even compared to others.

Another aptly themed song and very long version of 'Smooth Criminal' by Jackson. Hey, the man can cut a rug without a doubt... If you blink, you'll miss Lauren Holly's appearance (4:08), a favorite female actress of mine.

The Material Girl of the 80's: Madonna's "Material Girl" for the Decade of Greed on Wall Street. Or as Michael Milken put it, then, "Greed is Good."

The two-hit wonder of the decade (biased): The Romantics "Talking in Your Sleep". A Video shoot inside a garbage sack. Plenty of lingerie clad women and bad video!!! But the music is interesting. Very good Bass line, typical drum fills, ok lyrics and a repetitive keyboard.

The Bad Boy of the 80's: Billy Idol's "Cradle of Love". Ok, what guy didn't want a lass like this one barging into his house, drinking his wine and rocking his stuffy little world.

Top 10 lists: Books, Movies and Such (part 1)

It's a bit difficult to put together just off the top of me head. (And top of the morning to ya, lad.)
But I figure I'll give it a shot:

Music: Not in any particular order.

U2's Joshua Tree is an all-time favorite. I like in particular 'Running to Stand Still' and the lyrics:

Sweet the sin

Bitter the taste in my mouth

I see seven towers

But I only see one way out

You got to cry without weeping

Talk without speaking

Scream without raising your voice

You know I took the poison from the poison stream

Then I floated out of here

Singing ha la la la di day - ha la la la di day

Live Throwing Copper and 'White, Discussion' and the lyrics:

the coin flips again and again, and again, and again

as our sanity walks away

all this discussion though politically correct

is dead beyond destruction

though it leaves me quite erect

Big Head Todd & the Monsters 'Sister Sweetly' and from 'Bittersweet' the lyrics:

I know we don't talk about it.
    We don't tell each other
All the little things that we need.
We work our way around each other
As we tremble and we bleed...As we tremble and we bleed.
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go at it alone
London calling upon the zombies of death
Quit holding out - and draw another breath
London calling - and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking I saw you running out
London calling, see we ain't got no HIGH
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
Well, it's been ten years and maybe more since I first set eyes on you.
The best years of my life gone by, here I am alone and blue.
    Some people cry and some people die by the wicked ways of love;
But I'll just keep on rollin' along with the grace of the Lord above.
    Mirrors on the ceiling
    The pink champagne on ice
And she said:'We are all just prisoners hereof our own device'
    And in the master's chambers
    They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
Things that go to make up a life
Endless days of summer, longer nights of doom
    Waiting for the morning light
Scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame
Things that go to make up a life
I am who I am who I am, now, who am I?
    Requesting some enlightenment
Could I have been anyone other than me?
As you leave me please would you close the door
and forget what I told you
Just 'cause you're right - that don't mean I'm wrong
    Another shoulder to cry upon
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Yeah, I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
    Lose your love
    Lose your love
    Lose your love...
    So when he'd finished speakin,
he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.
